What the doctor says

Matt does in fact have Guillain-BarrĂ©. They've put him on a five-day treatment, so he'll be in the hospital for awhile longer and probably in rehab for a few weeks after that. The good news is that there's a 90-percent recovery rate, and considering the factors in his favor—he's young, strong, and healthy—things look good.
Meanwhile, we've got a lot to be grateful for, like supportive families and health insurance!

Prayers Please

Matt’s in the hospital with what may be Guillain-BarrĂ© syndrome, a disease that attacks the nervous system, sometimes causing paralysis. Right now he’s just got some tingling and numbness in his limbs, so the docs should be able to take can take care of it before it gets worse. Meanwhile, any prayers, positive thoughts, and/or good karma sent our way would be much appreciated!

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

That's the best way to describe Riley's *help* with dishwasher loading.

Save Room for Dessert

Just when I thought Riley would eat anything, she went all finicky on me. I think it happened when I let her try a homemade rhubarb muffin—her first taste of something sweet (besides fruit). After that, even her old (non-fruit) favorites like cottage cheese, broccoli, and whole-wheat bread became fair game for spit-out session.

So I was pleasantly surprised when she lapped up tonight's dinner: fennel and potato bake. I guess vegetables drenched in enough cheese and cream will win over the pickiest of babies.

Whoops!

Saturday was Riley's first trip to the zoo, and I forgot to bring a camera. Argh! Maybe next time.

Anyhow, here were Riley's zoo highlights:
  • Riding in cousin Carson's cool stroller. (Until he kicked her out.)

  • Eating Uncle Geoff's cinnamon bread.

  • Trying to climb into the sheep's cage.

  • Eating contents of the zoo sandbox.

Ironically, we didn't spend much time seeing animals (besides sheep and goats). Maybe next time.
Since eating sand was Riley's favorite zoo activity, here's a related picture from our beach trip.

Best Milestone Ever

Riley's latest discovery: the cereal cupboard. Now that she can make her own breakfast, I can finally sleep in, right?

Looks Can Be Deceiving

We visited the Oregon coast this weekend. It was sunny and beautiful...

...until we stepped outside, where it was really cold and really windy. And jackets were really necessary. In May!? Oh yeah, we're not in Houston anymore.

First Day on the Job

Since I no longer need a personal assistant, Riley's working for Matt now. Today's assignments? Ripping off shipping labels, knocking over packages, and making sure there was never a quiet moment.

We're Alive...

...just kinda busy getting situated. And experiencing minor technical difficulties with a new camera. But we figured out the camera, so expect lots more pictures soon. Meanwhile, here's a pic illustrating of Riley's newest talent(s): 1. pulling herself up and 2. wreaking havoc on the magazine basket.

When Short is Good

The bathtub in our new home in 36 inches long. Not ideal for a full-grown adult, but perfect for a 28-inch baby.
