Word of the Day: Serendipity

So I'm training for a marathon.* It's my excuse to be 100-percent selfish a few hours each Saturday morning.

My Saturday long runs range from 12 to 22 miles, and some go better than others.

Yesterday's was NOT a good one, thanks to lack of sleep, bad socks (hello blisters!), and turned-off drinking fountains along my route.

The last 11 miles were brutal, and it was all I could do not to hop on the streetcar to head home three miles early. As I hobbled home, I thought, "How the heck am I going to chase Riley around all afternoon?"

But in a stroke of serendipity, she napped for almost four hours.

Which hasn't really happened since...

Thank you child! I thoroughly enjoyed my 7 hours of selfishness! (Minus the 11 miserable miles part...)

*If all goes as planned, I'll be running the Tacoma (Washington) Marathon on May 10.

Oh. What a precious baby! Riley sure is a cutie. And I am completely jealous of the nap. I was in heaven when Hannah's nap went past the one hour mark yesterday! :)

I'm proud of you for not giving up! I'm not sure I would have been able to make it the last three miles (once again, I wonder if the half marathon is a better distance for me. . .) I'm so impressed Riley took such a wonderful nap! Good girl!
